Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial in Florence for the Memorial Day on May 27th 2013.

Time

The photo was taken at 11am at the end of the commemoration ceremony. The clouds that let the sun pass alternatively gave me the inspiration

Lighting

Totally natural lighting given by a cloudy day but also sunny.

Equipment

In 2013 I used the Nikon D800 and was equipped with 24-70 Nikon on the 55mm focal length. 1/160; f / 16 iso 400. Shot without the use of a tripod

Inspiration

The drama of the place and the clouds that partially covered the lawn, inspired my shot. A very beautiful view even if in a place of great sadness.

Editing

As a post-production I only developed the raw file, accentuating the shadows and defining the contours better. No post production after raw development.

In my camera bag

Now I use two camera bodies: Nikon D850 and D5. The "triad" composed of 14-24 is always present; 24-70 and 70-200 (all f2.8) and the 2x focal duplicator of the Nikkor

Feedback

The only advice I can give is to take pictures when they are seen. If you see a particular situation of light in a place that inspires them, do not wait! Take it now! A few minutes later my picture became completely covered by clouds and the picture was not beautiful anymore.
