Location
The photo was taken at Whipsnade Zoo, UK. A zoo is a great place to get close to animals that you wouldn't normally have access to.Time
This photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon. It had been a fairly dry day but then just as we had sat down to watch the bird show, the heavens opened. Desperate to get a good photo of the birds, I stayed out in the rain as long as the zoo keepers and birds would. I had sat close to the front to get a good view of the birds, and this little guy came hopping across in front of me. It was definitely worth staying out in the rain for!Lighting
All natural lighting. It was raining with a lot of dark clouds, so I had set my exposure settings in advance.Equipment
I used a Nikon D750 with Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro Lens attached.Inspiration
I find a zoo is a great place to get close to animals that you wouldn't normally have access to. I find birds of prey fascinating and the bird show was great to get close to one. I definitely want to get long telephoto lens to capture more of these birds in the wild.Editing
Yes I did all the post-processing in Adobe Lightroom CC. I used it to crop the photo slightly, increase the contrast and saturation, and reduce the exposure a little as it looked a little too bright for my liking. In my camera bag
Being a big fan of capturing the smaller details, first thing to go in my bag is the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro Lens. Love this lens as I find it useful for not just macro shots but for use as a short telephoto and a good length as a portrait lens. That being said the next lens to go in the bag is the Nikon 85mm f/1.8, absolutely fantastic lens for portraits. And final lens to go in the bag at the moment is the Nikon 50mm f/1.8. This is the first FX Lens I bought to go with my Nikon D750, and being on a budget, this was the combination I worked with for quite some time. It taught me a lot.Feedback
If you are in to your wildlife photography, I highly recommend going to your closest zoo or safari park. Even though you might be able to get closer to the animals this way, you still need to be patient and wait for the right moment. The animals can move quickly so be sure to use camera settings fast enough to capture the action.
