I first saw this location on a workshop and the weather that day was terrible, so bad the camera hardly left the bag. It turned into more of a day looking for places to come back to.

Originally I had a thought in my head that this would be a moody black and white photo, but then after my initial edits in Lightroom, I started to like the image a lot in colour.

It's great when a finished image is exactly what you imagined. However, sometimes we are pleasantly surprised by an even better result.

Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken at the Millennium Stone, Derwentwater in the Lake District National Park.
Time
It was a very overcast day with the odd break in the clouds. This was taken in the middle of the day.
Lighting
All natural lighting, however I did use filters to balance the exposure of the image.
Equipment
I used a Nikon D750 with 16-35mm lens, mounted on a tripod and using Lee Filters.
Inspiration
I first saw this location on a workshop and the weather that day was terrible, so bad the camera hardly left the bag. It turned into more of a day looking for places to come back to.
Editing
Originally I had a thought in my head that this would be a moody black and white photo, but then after my initial edits in Lightroom, I started to like the image a lot in colour. It's great when a finished image is exactly what you imagined. However, sometimes we are pleasantly surprised by an even better result.
In my camera bag
My camera gear has changed since I took this photo. I now have a Fujifilm X-T4 with lenses 10-24mm f/4, 16-80mm f/4 and 50-140 f/2.8. I use a 3 Legged Thing tripod and Kase Magnetic Filters.
Feedback
One thing I learned from capturing this image was to never give up. If it doesn't work one day, always go back and try again. That's the great thing about outdoor photography, the conditions are always different.
