The photo was taken at Garibaldi Hall in Ballarat and was hosted by the Leigh Valley Hawk and Owl Sanctuary.Time
The photo was taken during the afternoon.Lighting
It was a gray day with very little sunlight.Equipment
This was taken on my Canon 7D Mark II using a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD, the exposure was 1/640 sec on f/7.1 and ISO 1250. I did not use a flash or a tripod.Inspiration
Some friends had organized a bird of prey event and I decided it would be a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some birds. I enjoy taking wildlife shots and it was good to be in a controlled environment. There were other birds but the little eagle shot is one of my favorites.Editing
Yes, I used photoshop to sharpen the image. There was also the bird handlers red arm to the left of the picture that was distracting, so I removed that by covering it with the green, it went from the top left hand corner down to the beak so I was was not able to crop the arm out of the image. In my camera bag
I have a Lowepro 350 that normally has ny Canon 7D Mark II, a Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC, Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 a 58mm ND variable filter and a couple of canon kit lenses that the filter attaches to. 4 batteries and about 6 SD cards ranging from 8 to 64GB. A mini tripod and a pair of reading glasses.Feedback
The bird was stationary so it was easy to get a good shot. Positioning yourself to get the best angle needs patience as the bird keeps moving to see what's going on. I had autofocus on and just kept following the birds eyes.
