Hey Donna. The only critique I have is the world needs more of your work on Viewbug. Love it!!!

This photo was taken in my home studio.Time
We shot the entire afternoon one August day. We changed outfits at one point. The model is also an actress and singer so she is super open to being creative.Lighting
I wanted to use gels - there are two - one purple and one blue on either side. I love shooting "colder" images so these colours appeal to me.Equipment
I use a Canon 5d Mark 2 - I used a 50 1.2 prime (I only shoot with prime lenses) My settings were aperture 7.1 iso 160 shutter 160 - I believe I used a beauty dish with two fill lights on either side with the gels. She was actually facing away from her light source (the beauty dish) but it worked! I normally would get her to face the light but with the gels, it looked cool!Inspiration
To be honest - we went into this only knowing we wanted to shoot some sort of fashion and we were prepared to "wing it" . The makeup artist, model and I went to my prop room and found clothes that we liked. The braid is a hairpiece that we added to the models hair....after that a "look" was born!Editing
Yes, I ALWAYS do skin retouching on every studio shot I edit. Other than that, having the gels there to provide interest...I didn't have to do much else.In my camera bag
When I do commercial work or weddings - I carry a Think Tank suitcase with all my gear (2 bodies - primes lenses (35, 50, 85, 135),flashes, CF cards, battery charger, CTO gels) but when I do a lifestyle, fashion or boudoir shoot I generally only use the 50 1.2 - its my go to lens, for sure.Feedback
Absolutely don't be afraid to play with in your studio - get sheets of your favourite colour gels (in Canada - they are $8 for a big sheet) and go crazy! There is never a wrong way to do gels in my opinion. I'm sure there are techies out there that would disagree - but as a creative - I say GO FOR IT and experiment! :)
