Behind The Lens

Location

I remember taking this photo just outside my garden back in January of 2015!

Time

It was around 8 in the morning when I noticed something moving in one of my plants.

Lighting

The lighting at 8 in the morning was not yet very harsh hence the subdued colors. It was also partially in the shade that's why the lighting was not so bad.

Equipment

For this shot I used my Nikon D300 and 105mm micro nikkor lens. I was not using a tripod at that time and no flash was used. It was handheld at 1/50 @ 4.5 f/stop. ISO at 200. You will notice a little blurring because of the slower shutter speed.

Inspiration

I recently bought the 105mm micro lens that time and was trying to take some sample shots when I chanced upon this gecko. I always wanted to try my hand in macro photography and my garden was my studio with all the "subjects"I found there.:-)

Editing

I used Photoshop for my post processing on this photo. Only minor color balancing and enhancement and a little sharpening was done.

In my camera bag

During that time I normally carry my Nikon D300 with 18-200 VR zoom. This was my go-to lens. A speedlight flash and my 105mm prime.

Feedback

If you are going into macro photography, one should either have a macro lens or you can get a reversing ring to turn your regular/normal lens into a "hybrid" macro lens or you can also shoot using extension tubes to get the same effect. Both methods are the cheaper version instead of buying an expensive and dedicated Macro lens. You may want to try any of those methods and see what fits your need.
