Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken from the sea defence [promenade] between Dumpton Gap and Broadstairs in Kent/UK.

Time

This shot was taken just after sunrise around 06:07. I have been trying to get this shot for a good time as the sunrise and trawlers generally don't arrive at the same time! This was truly a Golden Hour for me.

Lighting

The Gold sunlight added to this shot as i was able to keep the Gulls and Fishing Boat in silhouette.

Equipment

This was taken using a fuji XT-1 with a 100-400 lens. Handheld.

Inspiration

I really wanted that different shot and not just another sunrise over the sea - this scene gave me every opportunity to do something completely different. Coming from an Art background i was looking for the inspiration that nature gives us.

Editing

I used very simple post proccesing in LR - exposure adjustment, presence adjustment, minor sharpening. and haze adjustments.

In my camera bag

I alway have a long and short lens and it's a case of whether i want to carry a lot of weight around - so i tend to balance the lenses with what i am going out to take a photo of. The most important bit of kit i found to be an advantage when out and about, is a sleeping bag roll mat, it offers so much options - a rest for the camera, a seat and rolled out to lay flat - as any fool can be uncomfortable. I do not intend to be a pack mule when out and about.

Feedback

This took over two years to achieve and it's a case of perseverance and careful observation. It is and will be a frustrating endeavour, i even had a Rock Pippit at my feet as it clearly recognised me - as i had spent so much time waiting patiently at this spot. Plan and plan again is the way. I find that you have to be a bit selfish when doing this type of photography, distractions are not what you want.
