Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Fairbanks, Alaska at Pioneer Park. Pioneer Park is a Fairbanks staple and located next door to a popular tourist attraction- The Salmon Bake.

Time

I remember the day I took this photo, because I took my baby brother out and gave him his first ride in a swing at the park. We went for a walk in the park after a picnic and it was the perfect Alaskan day because the monster mosquitoes hadn't gotten bad yet (seriously, some people joke that they get as big as bats). It was creeping into the evening time and getting cloudy.

Lighting

I like natural lighting and spontaneity when I take photographs. It is nice to catch beautiful things and important moments in a moments notice

Equipment

This picture is taken with a simple Sony A350

Inspiration

This was my last major outing with my family before I moved down to Texas, so I took plenty of family photos for memories sake and then went to put away my camera and my sister commented on how good a flower smelled, so I came over and really liked the way the inside seemed to just disappear from her height. I'm always interested in objects looking more spooky, complex or life-like than they are, so the "black hole" and "veins" just stuck out to me.

Editing

No processing, just a lucky click

In my camera bag

I don't go out on special trips to photograph things, but I like to keep a camera or two around in case I see something interesting. To me it isn't about what equipment I have, but what moments and memories I capture

Feedback

Be spontaneous. Don't go hunting for the perfect shot, just let things flow and be creative
