I took this photo at Hatteras lighthouse in Buxton on the coast of North Carolina.Time
My family and I visit my Aunt on Hatteras Island every year. My dad and I visit the lighthouse trying to get the perfect lighting each time. We've found that the colors are better in the evening. This one was taken just after a particularly colorful sunset.Lighting
I'm a big fan of natural lighting so I wanted to find the perfect light for Hatteras without any influence but the sun.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D Mark II with a 15mm-35mm lens and a 19/1 focal length. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
Thousands of people take pictures of the Hatteras Lighthouse every summer so to me it was important to get a unique perspective on such a classic symbol of the North Carolina Outer Banks. My dad and I go out to take pictures every year at the beach to challenge each other.Editing
There was minimal post-processing in this photo. Just a slight contrast boost. In my camera bag
I'm just starting out so it's just me and my Canon 7D with a 18mm-35mm lens right now.Feedback
It's all about timing. It took several trips to Hatteras at sunset to get the perfect lighting on the landmark so this took a lot of patience. It's important to really think outside the box if you want to capture a unique perspective on a classic.
