Location
This was taken out in the rolling hills of Southern Ontario, Canada. My parents have quite a large park like/ forested property that I love to explore when I visit. There are so many hidden gems out there. Feathers, fungi, flora, fauna and even neat bones are things I often come across.Time
This was taken mid day just as the sun came overhead and started to give a magical glow through the forest trees.Lighting
Its pretty dense in the area I shot this. Once the sun gets high enough and can break through a bit, the look of light shining in is stunning. The Bokeh effect is always such a wonderful addition to the mood of certain photos and I love how it came into play with this particular one.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7200 with my Nikkor 70-300mm Lens. The feather was in the distance off the trail but it worked quite well in picking up the detail.Inspiration
My sister did actually! She loves all things feathers. We hadn't seen each other in a long time and had met up at my parents place. She, our Mom and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and go on a trek through the bush. We had been talking about all the Wild Turkeys in the area and how cool their feathers were when this one fell down.Editing
All I did here was add a slight contrast to catch the tips of the feather a tad more. I also added a minimal amount of saturation. The green in the background needed just a little help.In my camera bag
Along with my Nikon D7200, I always have my 3 favorite lenses. My Nikkor 70-300mm, my Nikkor 18-140 and my trusty little macro... my Nikkor 60mm macro lens. I find I do quite well with these pieces on most of my adventures.Feedback
Get out and walk! Pack your lenses and just go! I find there is always something in the most unexpected places. Look up, look down... get up high and down low! If its feathers your after, my favorite places are to hike up in the mountains and hills. Heading down to the water where birds like to gather is a great place too!
