This was a wonderful moment between mother and daughter. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in Fort Collins, Colorado at a wedding I was officiating. I was helping out grabbing some shots before and after the ceremony and I saw her fixing her daughters hair for a picture and grabbed the shot. It is one of my favorites from that day.

Time

It was late in the evening and the sun was harsh in some areas but here, it was in the shade. Perfect conditions!

Lighting

Natural light shot with a little kicker from a speed light to bring some life into the eyes. It was not needed here.

Equipment

I was using my Nikon D750 and my 50.0 mm f/1.8. The flash was on the camera but not fired if I remember right.

Inspiration

Nothing like the relationship between mother and daughter.

Editing

I use Adobe Lightroom for the basic edits; contrast, levels, and lens correction. I use a basic VSCO preset that I modified. Changed the calibration settings with the Xrite Color Checker Passport (which I swear by). I then used the NIK software suit to do the sharpening and skin work.

In my camera bag

I have a Lowepro Flipside 500 bag that has everything in it that I need. I have a Nikon D750 and a Nikon D7100 body's. The Nikkor 50mm 1.8, a Sigma 70-200 and a kit lens (18-105) that came with the D7100. There is the Xrite Color Checker Passport, the Gary Fong Collapsable Light Sphere, 2 speed lights; Yongnuo YN468-II and a Pro Master FL190, lots of batteries and battery grips for each body. Reflectors and many other little things that I think I may need at any given time.
