Behind The Lens

Location

On a bed in a room in my house.

Time

It was midday. There is a large window with indirect light on the image's left side.

Lighting

This is all done with natural light. I used a reflector on the opposite side to fill in shadows. And the white bed linens helped reflect more light to her face.

Equipment

I used a Canon 6D and a 50mm 1.4 lens.

Inspiration

She was going through a very messy divorce. She wanted to feel confident about herself and lovely. I was glad she wanted to be stripped down, both literally and figuratively because I think this image really conveys her strength.

Editing

Yes. I can't remember exactly what I did but obviously it's changed to black and white.

In my camera bag

Canon 6D, Sigma Art 50mm 1.4, Sigma Art 35mm 1.4. I tend to keep things simple. It works for me.

Feedback

A brave and willing subject help. :) I prefer natural light and a large soft light source is easier to work with. Keep your backdrop simple so your subject can stand out. Experiment with poses and don't so something like this shot right from the start. We did this at the end of the shoot after she was more relaxed and comfortable.
