Location
This self-portrait was taken in two times. The photo was taken by the car’s window on the road near the Death Valley during a road trip in the west of USA and the photo of me was taken a long time after in my apartment.Time
For the landscape, I was taken the photo during the day, just before a big sand and rain storm. For the photo of me, I was taken it during an evening, when I found the inspiration about the concept of the self-portrait and the posture I wanted. I created the self-portrait during the night, just after the photoshoot.Lighting
I wanted a strong, a dramatic and a mysterious photo with a story between reality and magic in which I can identify me. Also, I wished something which can embody outside what I felt inside. Moreover, I wanted a self-portrait which had questions as much as answers. Finally, I desired an undated photo, a photo which can be in the past, nowadays or in the future.Equipment
My equipment is really simple. My camera is a Nikon D3100 with an 18-200mm f 3.5 / 6.3 lens. I also used a tripod.Inspiration
Probably, I was inspired day after day, by some photographers, my story, my study, my experimentations, my feelings, … I wanted to create the best self-portrait I can do at one moment of my life about my feelings. I needed to express myself in order to feel better, more relaxed. So when I saw my holiday’s photos, I had an idea with this photo which was matched with my feelings of the moment. Therefore, I though and I created this photo.Editing
Of course, I needed it to create what I wanted, so I did it! The landscape was taken in the desert and the photo of me in my apartment, so I needed to use photo manipulation. I began to introduce me in the landscape and after, I did colours corrections. In my camera bag
In generally, the first thing I always pack is my Nikon 3100 with an 18-200mm f 3.5 / 6.3 mm. After, it depends where I’m going to, but I can also bring my macro lens and my silver camera.Feedback
These advices work for conceptual photo and self-portrait but also for all different kind of photos. Take note when you have an idea. Be patient between the first idea and the final photo, if it is necessary, work in several times. Think about what you want to show exactly, how you can do this because the concept is important as much as skills. Look around you, other art work and people, everything inspire you, so release your inspiration. Finally, think always ‘No limits’, we never know the result! Always remember, you are totally free, just pleasure and be yourself in your photos and you can be proud of the photographer you are!
