I love the mixture of colors in the sky and their reflection on the water.

I just love the balance of the smoothness of the whole composition.

I absolutely love this! I am a beginner photographer under 18. How did you get this shot?

Location
This photo was taken at Magazine Bay, Maraetai Auckland New Zealand. It is a 30 minute drive from my place.Time
This is is supposed to be a sunrise shot. But the thick clouds hid the sun.Lighting
I wish to draw the viewers attention to the beam of light peeking through the thick clouds. The wharf foreground leads the eye to the exploding light made by the thick clouds.Equipment
I have used Nikon D7200 and Tokina 11-20 for this shot. I put on a Hitech 0.9GND and 1.8ND for the sky and create a long exposure shot.Inspiration
This is one of my comfort place. I have always come back to this as The photo that I have envisaged does not happen yet.Editing
I usually use Camera Raw for recovering details of the photo. The rest of post processing happens in photoshop such as contrast and vibrancy adjustment. Together with these I also utilised Nik Color Efex Pro and Nik Output Sharpener. In my camera bag
Currently I have Nikon D750 and Nikon D7200. I usually use the former for all my landscape photos now and the latter for timelapse photography. For filters, I can't go wrong with Hitech Firecrest series.Feedback
Patience is a virtue. I never though anything would come out of the thick clouds on this photo. When I am about to pack up the sky started to put up a show so I ended spending about an hour more.
