Location
this photo was taken in my friend's vacant apartment. i moved in for a few weeks, before my own apartment had become available, and after he'd purchased a place. all of my stuff was in storage, and the only things in the room were an inflatable bed, fold-out chair, and a couple moving boxes.Time
this was taken in the late afternoon. the window had an excellent view of santa monica and the beach, as well as the setting sun. the light coming through the window slats looked amazing.Lighting
i'm a big fan of using natural light, and this room provided well for me! the stripes across my clothes add a whole new dimension.Equipment
i used a canon 7D, 70-200 f/4 IS lens, tripod, and a remote for the 2-second timer. and the jumps were fueled by a can of red bull!Inspiration
for one, i was bored. i was crashing temporarily at my friend's vacant place, and the only items i had with me were my computer, camera, and some clothes. and the reflective sunglasses. their surface looked amazing, particularly with the late-afternoon light entering the room.Editing
i try to keep post-processing to a minimum. for this version, i cropped in significantly on the sunglasses, and converted the image to black and white. i also have a full-color, uncropped version of this picture on viewbug, which doesn't show the detail in the sunglasses reflection as well.In my camera bag
lately, i've been keeping almost all of my gear in my bag. you never know what will come in handy! besides the canon 7D, i have an 8mm fisheye, 10-22 ultrawide, 24-70, 50 f/1.8, 70-200 f/4 IS.Feedback
i highly recommend a tripod and timer. if you can use natural lighting, by all means go for it. and you'll need plenty of energy and patience to perform the jumps, as well as to time them with the shutter release. i can't even remember how many tries it took before i was finally happy with the results!
