Behind The Lens
Location
this was taken in venice, california.Time
this was at sunset, about 6:30 pm. for brief periods in the fall and late winter, the sun lines up with the pier at just the right angle to cast shadows across the sand. it looks best on bright days when the tide is low.Lighting
there was only a brief window where the shadows stood out, and they were constantly changing. it took awhile to line it up where people weren't standing in the way.Equipment
this was shot on a canon 7D and 10-22 lens. ISO was 100, and the lens was open all the way at 10mm.Inspiration
i live and work near the beach, and i always keep my eye out for colorful/interesting situations to capture. i've shot these shadows on a handful of occasions, but they seemed to pop a little more on this particular evening.Editing
i try to keep post-processing to a minimum, but i upped the exposure a little bit to bring out more detail in the sand.In my camera bag
canon 7D, a couple neutral density filters, and lenses that cover everything from 10mm to 200mm.Feedback
scout the area, and move around to find the best angles. and if tourists pop up in your way, kindly ask them to step aside.
