Behind The Lens

Location

I have taken this photo when I was having my annual vacation in the Philippines while spending 3 days in our hometown which I am visiting very seldom, since i have already built my own house near the Metropolitan Area.

Time

I usually love to shoot during the morning as I can get the best warm ambient light but not at this photo where I had taken the shoot 2 hours past noon since it was raining earlier and raining is seldom I experienced since I am working in the Middle East. I got fascinated when the sunlight appeared after the rain and I started walking around my father's house backyard.

Lighting

I love ambient light, this is where I really depend in taking photos. With this photo, I just took the advantage of having a diffused sunlight around 2:00p.m. after the rain.

Equipment

It was shot on Canon 5D Mark II with Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro, handheld and position closest to the subject enough not to shoo the subject away.

Inspiration

Aside from street photography, I am also fascinated with the macros and all the little things around us. How I really admired those photographs showing such great details even in the smallest part of the nature, that is why after I got the Canon 24-70mm, I bought a second hand macro lens to appease my desire to shoot flowers and insects.

Editing

I usually shot in Jpeg and I'm using a very minimal post processing to look as natural as it is with just a little bit of sharpening and a bit of tone adjustment.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon EF24-70mm 2.8 as my walk around lens with my Canon body 5D Mark II and to be able to capture subjects from afar I usually pack my Canon EF70-200mm 2.8 V2 but not to left out Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro in case I might be encountering flowers and insects along the way. Finally, I have a new addition, this Canon EF85mm 1.2 which I have been dreaming to have for a long time.

Feedback

Patience is a virtue, specially in capturing insects that never rest in one place and keep on flying and moving. Consider the light as light plays a very vital role in making your photo very interesting. Without correct lighting, even the most interesting subject will look very dull. Lastly, make the most out of the colors in the background because this will give distinct appeal in your photo.
