Location
This photo was taken insude the dome at Sacre Cœur in Paris, France.Time
This picture was shot in the late morning on a beautiful, clear day, late in the summer.Lighting
I had no control over the ambient light. I walked around the church to see what different light was spilling in from the windows on the upper sides of the dome. I walked away and shot pictures around the church for a while until the sun shone exactly where I wanted.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3000 using a 55-200 lens. I don't remember the ISO, shutter speed, or aperture. I did not use a tripod or flash as most churches prohibit the use of flashes inside.Inspiration
I am capitivated by old buildings and architecture. You can imagine the overwhelming joy of walking around Paris for the first time. The detail and craftsmanship that is present in many of the old buildings around Europe is astounding. I wanted to capture the natural spotlight of the sun highlighting the intricate detail of the angel sculpture.Editing
The only post-processing I used was a minute amount of brightness correction. In my camera bag
I am a minimalist at heart. I generally carry a backpack with a Nikon D80, D3000, an 55-200mm, a 50mm, an 18-55mm, and an SB-800.Feedback
The biggest advice I give new photographers is to use your eyes and take in everything sround you. Move around, change your perspective, and don't be afraid to experiment. I generally have a 128gig card in my camera so I shoot many pictures of whatever I am looking at. The idea of taking so many shots is being patient. You never know how the changing light, moving clouds, shifting shadows, or changing perspective will give you a beautiful shot. Unless you are shooting for a client, take your time and shoot what interests you. Most of my pictures are taken while on vacation. The main thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy yourself. What is the point of taking pictures if you don't love photography?
