I took this picture in Mexico city while visiting the ruins that are mostly under the city. I was 17 on my first big trip out of Canada. I spent one month immersed in the culture living with some family friends. I remember my curiosity when we walked into the belly of the city, it felt personal and intimate to see this true side of the city. I could look in the distance and see buildings that were clearly not standing straight because their foundations were standing on similar grounds that were this buried city. As for this picture there was something strange of seeing people coming out of a tunnel holding some brooms. It almost made me feel part of an ant colony, especially while feeling so small in this big city.Time
I cannot remember exactly at what time this picture was taken but judging by the hard light coming from above it must have been close to noon.Lighting
I took this picture with no artificial light. The light is hard with barely any shade. It is almost like you can feel the heat and exhaustion of the people coming out of the tunnel with their brooms.Equipment
This was taken with my first DSLR, Canon XSI, basic 18-55mm kit lens.Inspiration
I felt as if this picture captured the essence of that hot day and the moment itself. Although she is far you can tell a lot from her body language and posture. A closeness and connection for the length of the shutter speed that perpetuated even after the moment was passed. I loved the texture, the weird mystery of the woman in the picture and the leading lines of the tunnel. To this day I wonder about her story and wish I had talked to her.Editing
I like the rawness of the image without the processing and editing. Only very minute changes were made to this picture. In my camera bag
I now usually cary my Canon t5i, with my 50mm lens as well as my basic 18-55mm lens and my ______. I also bring my tripod, lens filters, a flash, extra batteries, extra memory cards and equipment to clean my camera. I also carry waterproof covering for my camera and a bunch of ziplock ( when I say bunch I am not exaggerating, all my things are in ziplock and I bring extras) with a waterproof hiking bag. You really never know when weather might turn to rain.Feedback
Be in the moment. Connect with people and notice details. For me travelling has become more and more about meeting people with different lifestyles, experiences and ways of living. You need to stay open to new ideas and alert to opportunities to catch special moments on camera. With this pictures, as I mentioned earlier I never did talk to this lady, maybe that adds to the mystery of the picture but for myself I am still truly curious and disappointed I never did talk to her and know more about her life.
