Location
This was the very first photoshoot taken at my film and photography location studio, Atlas Studios. It is 5000square metres of a victorian industrial mill, full of industrial grunge and textured walls and floors. This particular image was taken in the slate room. A room which is surrounded by 3 metre tall windows all with mottled glass giving a beautiful soft, diffused light onto any subject. I had my model, Megan, stand on a wrought iron staircase. Behind her was one of the 3 metre tall window with mottled glass cascading soft diffused light all around her.Time
This was taken during the mid afternoon when the sun had moved away from the windows, giving a soft light.Lighting
This is completely natural light, a reflector was used to remove some of the shadows on her face.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 7d, on a 50mm prime. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
The purpose of the shoot was to capture delicate grace of a dancer contrasting against the harsh, grunge of an industrial backdrop.Editing
I used light room to develop this image. Originally in a Raw format, I converted it to black and white. Once converted I adjusted the highlights slightly, the blacks and whites and finally I tweaked the contrast. In my camera bag
I never leave home without my Canon 7D, Untill I can afford the 5D that is, my 100mm prime macro lense, I love this lense not only for macro but also for portrait shoots too, and my ultimate go to lens my 24 - 70mm Canon.Feedback
Patience. The hardest element to capturing the soft flow to the image was the dropping of the veil element to her dress. I lost count to the amount of attempts we did and when you think you might have it do more just incase, but we got there eventually.
