Location
My friend Manuel had just moved to a new apartment in Buenos Aires. That night we were going out with a bunch of friends and we just happened to go through a car tunnel, built so that the trains can go above it.Time
The picture was taking around 2 am, when were heading to a party.Lighting
The tunnel light was so striking and I was lucky enough to have my film camera on me. I used Lucky 200iso film and didn't have a tripod on me, so it was a tricky shot. I had to ask Manuel and his girlfriend Mariel to stay completely still for a couple of seconds.Equipment
I used my Canon 2000 film camera, with its 28-80mm f5.6 lens, no tripod, and no flash. The film was Lucky 200iso, which is really low for a night shot. Luckily, I had a steady hand.Inspiration
This picture is actually really poetic because the people who modeled are boyfriend and girlfriend, and they had had a huge fight that night. We were going out to a party of a friend who we couldn't let down, and they were not talking. It was really hard for me to convince them to pose for the picture because they were not talking at the time. I think that you can see, while looking at their body language, that there's tension and some distance between them, not only physical, but emotional. In the end, I ended up spending so much time on positioning them and setting up my camera that their anger turned to me, but it was a funny "hanging-out-with-photographers-can-be-so-annoying" silly kind of anger. They felt connected through their annoyance at me, and they actually forgot they were mad at each other.Editing
Film photography does not require much post-processing. It was scanned with an industrial negative film scanner, and it has no post-processing.In my camera bag
At the time of this picture, I always carried my Canon 2000 camera with me, back when photography was just a hobby for me. Later on, I started working as a photographer with that same camera, and I wasn't feeling safe carrying it around anymore. Now, I have collected enough automatic film cameras to always have one on me.Feedback
Practice being patient and trust that the pictures will come to you. Having friends who support your hobby and aren't afraid of posing is really important, too. Notice everything around you. Always have your camera with you.
