Location
This photo was taken alongside a hiking trail in southern Quebec. It was taken in early July after the pine tree had started blooming with the new year's growth. These pine cones end up brown in color, but when they just bloom, they have a reddish hue.Time
It was taken in later morning when the direst sun illuminated the undergrowth.Lighting
As noted earlier, the reddish hue stands out even more when the sun's illumination reaches through the trees to directly hit the pine cone. Otherwise the color is washed out a bit.Equipment
A Canon 70D camera equipped with a Tamron 18-270 zoom lens.Inspiration
The color of the cone stood out compared to they usual brownish color, which are much more common. This reddish tint probably lasts a couple of weeks at best, so time of the year is important.Editing
Minor image sharpening, otherwise no post-processing.In my camera bag
Same as the above, plus an L-Series 400mm zoom lens and doubler. I usually travel light when hiking.Feedback
Keep your eyes open when walking around in nature. When something grabs your attention, figure out how to capture what it is that makes you look at it in awe. In this case, the reddish color of the cone is what caught my eye, and a few seconds thinking about appropriate zoom and composition is all it took.
