Right, the horse rider is small in the picture by design so it makes the scenery grandiose. Cheers!

Location
This photo was taken at Monument National Park in Arizona. The exact location is a rock outcropping at John Ford's point. It is named this way because Film Director John Ford used the park as a film location for many films. This point is high up and overlooks a picturesque section of the park.Time
This photograph was taken fairly early in the morning, around 10AM in mid-September.Lighting
Light is usually better early or late in the day. In this case, early morning provided good illumination without the whitewash of the harsh midday sun. Also, this was in mid-September so after the peak summer heat.Equipment
A Canon 450xsi Rebel was used with the standard kit lens. The camera was tripod-mounted and the mes had a polarizing filter.Inspiration
I had seen the iconic John Ford photo as a kid. Since I was going through the park, I took the opportunity to mimic the shot. Also, this is one of those scenes that requires a horse and-or human to provide scale. This gives perspective to the grandiose landscape. A red shirt always helps to stand out.Editing
Minor sharpening of the photo, otherwise no post-processing was done.In my camera bag
I now carry a Canon 70D and I have two telephoto lenses and a doubler.Feedback
When you get the urge to take a landscape photo, take a few minutes to compose the shot in your head and then execute. Often times, I will take several shots, sometimes with different settings on the camera. Afterwards, I have several photos from which to choose the best one. Sometimes the best one is not even the one you initially thought would be best!
