This is a section of old, first-growth forest near Lake Sammamish in Washington state, USA. The Douglas fir, hemlock and cedar trees are as old as 300 years and can reach 6 feet in diameter and nearly 200 feet tall. Their thick canopy shades the understory from sunlight, leaving the forest floor in a dimly lit all day.
