Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph is of the BP Saltend chemical works in Hull, North East England.

Time

Early evening on a dark cold and windy winters night.

Lighting

Natural light in the dark using a long exposure.

Equipment

Camera was a Nikon D610 fitted with a Nikon 24-70mm lens. A tripod was used to allow for the long exposure times.

Inspiration

I wanted to capture the staring structures and industrial lighting and feel to the area with the added interest of the trails of steam coming from the chimneys due to a long exposure time.

Editing

Cropped and levels adjusted then converted to black and white all using Photoshop Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I carry two Nikon bodies. I use the full frame Nikon D610 for mainly landscape photography. I also have a D500 that I use with a large zoom for wildlife, action and aviation shots.

Feedback

Low ISO and high aperture combine to give a longer exposure time to enhance the trails of steam in this shot.
