Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Hunter Valley Zoo at Nulkaba 5 mins from Cessnock.not far from Newcastle. Offering educational programmes and animal interaction. The lions arrived in 2015 it is their retirement home. This is Bruiser who is 16yrs old at the time the photo was taken he is now 19yrs of age..

Time

The photo was taken at 4.42.51pm on the 3rd July 2016

Lighting

The sun was starting to set Bruiser was enjoying the last of the winter day sunlight. I loved how it put him in a sort of spotlight.

Equipment

Photo taken with Cannon EOS 1100D. Lens Cannon EDS 55-250mm macro. I hand held and focused through the tiny cage wire with the setting on Sport and took several shots. I found it easier to focus and see beyond the wire and only bring Bruiser into focus as if he wasn't behind wire. Cannon FOR 1100D - 1/2000s Focal length - f/5.6 (35mm equivalent:392mm) ISO:3200 I didn't use flash. It is in natural light

Inspiration

I had heard that thete eere lions being sent to the Zoo in the Hunter Valley which was once known as The Rusa Park Zoo. After visiting The Wildlife Sanctuary in Keensburg near Denver Colarado USA I was extremely worried how these three lions were to be housed. I was pleasantly surprised, and happy to see them with lush grass and lots of space. As I observed Bruiser I was taken with his magnificence he seemed so Regal I had to capture his moment.

Editing

I cropped the photo using Picasa photo editor

In my camera bag

Camera and two lens the Cannon EDS 55-250mm and my Tamron 150-600mm F/5-6.3. Also cleaning cloths.
