Location
Kangaroo Island off South Australia, we took a trip with our daughter and her husband to check out some property that was for sale at American River, so the adventure began, we caught the first Sealink of the day across to the Island checked out the Local Markets and checked into our accommodation for that night and set off on the adventure, we had one day to explore and of course a visit to see the Seals at Seal Bay and the Remarkable Rocks were a priority, it was going to be a huge day of driving but hey it is worth it to up close to nature. We came across the Raptor Domain and of course we just had to go see the birds, love birds of all types and we had timed it for the 2.30pm display and had the pleasure of holding this magnificent youngster who had been hand rared and was learning how to fly, such a stunningly beautiful bird with the most amazing presence and so heavy I had to use my free arm to hold up the arm she was sitting on. The work the Raptor Centre is doing is amazing education for people to understand the threat that these beautiful birds are experiencing from human neglect and to develop a deep connection to them as the magnificent creation they are, as well as how we can all be aware of habitat preservation. So while my son-in-law took over the perch position I was able to take this photo which I relished.Time
Between 2.30 and 3.30pm the sun was behind the eagle, I remember having to move sideways to the sun to take the photo and taking note that she followed me with her eyes.Lighting
I just knew that I did not want to have to add light and I wanted a clear view of the eyes and didn't want the sun's glare as you can see the light in sort of over her back throwing a shadow under the beak on the breast.Equipment

A steady hand, sorry I am not a professional photographer and am just enjoying learning and love taking close up photography of birds and bees and butterflys and any wild creature that I stumble across or have the pleasure of seeing happy and living as nature intended them safe from preditors such as man.
