Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo in my son's room. I've done photography as a hobby/self taught professional. This was a box of chalk I kept telling my son to put away. Eventually I seen the art in the chalk.

Time

This was taken late afternoon. I had been trying all day to get my son to put it up. Thanks to him I was able to look at this box of chalk until I saw the vision that was staring at me ????

Lighting

I was actually practicing with my new Nikon 3300, I knew I wanted the chalk to show up bright and brilliant. It was a good opportunity to see how the new camera did. I love the picture, it's one of my favorites.

Equipment

I used a Nikon 3300 , ISO 100, F8, 1/60, 18-55mm lens at 34mm

Inspiration

I knew there was a challenge on viewbug for uncommon textures and after looking at the brightness of this picture; I though it would be a good picture to enter.

Editing

I did run a simple auto correct in Photoshop just to give a little more pop to the color.

In my camera bag

Nikon 3300, a basic tripod, 2 lenses...18-55mm, and a 70-300mm. A spare battery and 2 spare memory cards.

Feedback

I think the brightness of the chalk, the fact that they had some ware on them all played a roll in the outcome of the photo. My advise for anyone looking to create something similar...try to see the art in everything. I took a box of chalk that could have easily been put away the first time I asked. And because it took many times asking my son to put it away...I was able to see the art that was sitting there the whole time. Photography is what relaxes me. You can take something that can easily be frustrating or stressful and make it a relaxing piece of art.
