This is absolutely stunning, beautiful and saddening.
The lighting is surreal, intense, moody and mystifying.
The amount of sunrays , their detail and duo-tone divide is amazing, the best I have ever seen.
The image speaks volumes of how nature works and moves in mysterious ways.
Congratulations on such an incredible image, you should be very proud.

This is a lovely image...almost spiritual . It looks like a blessing from above. I've heard someone call them Jesus-lights the other day. Fantastic with the smoke and the blue, blue sky and the amber shining through the smoke.

This photo was taken while I was at work fighting a bushfire in Victoria, Australia. It was a particularly arduous day and I had stopped briefly to have a drink of water when I looked up and noticed how beautiful the sunlight was shining through the smoke. You don't always get these moments while fighting fires.Time
This would have been taken some time in the late morning. I would have been up early to start work and would have been working for quite a few hours as I remember how tired I was. We work up to 16 hours a day when fighting bushfires and are often quite exhausted due to the lack of sleep and physical nature of the work.Lighting
The sunlight in this photo spoke for itself as it shone through the two different colours of the smoke. The deep yellow of the smoke indicates the intensity of the fire, but the contrast with the white smoke gave the image a surreal, heavenly appeal to it.Equipment
Would you believe this was taken with a point and shoot LUMIX camera? No other equipment was used. It is not possible for me to work carrying all my usual equipment of big SLR and tripod etc. The little camera fits nicely into my pocket and is drop and waterproof making it the ideal thing to carry while working at a fire as I can quickly remove it from my pocket to take a shot.Inspiration
I have been a bushfire firefighter for quite a few years. As a firefighter you see a lot of devastation when working. I have many photos of fire itself and the devastation caused after it as ripped through the landscape. When I stopped to take a drink of water, I looked up and saw the sun rays shining though the smoke. It was a beautiful sight and gave the moment an almost heavenly feel.Editing
Considering this particular photo was taken as a jpeg, I was not able to do much more than a bit of a contrast and slight saturation alterations in Lightroom. Really, I felt this photo portrayed a beautiful moment in time and I did not feel it required much else.In my camera bag
I have recently upgraded to a Nikon D810, which is what I normally carry. I have a Nikon, 24-120 VR ED which I have found to be a beautiful versatile lens. I also have a Tokina AT-X Pro 17mm prime and a Nikon 50mm 1.8, and a Tamron 90mm macro. As well as a Manfrotto 190xPro3 carbon fibre tripod, Nikon Speedlight 600 and a Hahnel wireless remote. Plus it is usually handy to carry the point and shoot for working at fires, for water shots or when it is raining heavily while hiking.Feedback
I think it would be difficult unless you are in a bushfire situation, which I think is something fairly unique to my work. However, I have seen very similar beauty with fog or clouds. Sometimes it just pays to be in the right place at the right time and make sure you always have a camera on you to capture that unique moment.
