This was a dimly lit church which causes some challenges in getting just the right position to maximize the colour.Equipment
I use a Nikon D3100 with a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Handheld without a flash.Inspiration
I was on a week long trip to Montreal and had always wanted to see and shoot the Notre-Dame Basilica. The play of light and colour in the church is mighty fine and I spent about an hour trying to get the best possible shots.Editing
Post-Processing is not my strong point. I don't have the necessary software to do detailed post-processing. I shoot in raw so I use the Nikon Capture NX-D to convert my images. During this time I do some basic work on the images such as adjusting Exposure Compensation, White Balance and Tone.In my camera bag
In my bag I always have obviously my Nikon D3300 (used to be D3100 until a few months ago) with the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. Also I usually carry the 55-200mm zoom lens and a prime 50mm. I don't have a lot of fancy equipment, but then again I don't have enough knowledge or skill to fully utilize the things that I have.Feedback
Umm... This is a good question. Sadly I'm poor with giving adequate answers to such questions. My main advice is to find things that interest you and start from there. I only shoot things that I'd enjoy seeing on a wall. I try to imagine the picture hanging on a wall and if I'd want to see the subject matter hung on my wall. A lot of what I shoot is really just trial and error, I find things that I find captivating and then try to capture it in the same manner I visualized it. In the case of this image, the blue background was just burned into my rentas and I had to capture and best convey it in the photo.
