Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a spare room in the house I used to live. At the moment it had served me as a small makeshift studio.

Time

I honestly do not remember. I had closed the window blinds and used only studio light for this shot.

Lighting

I used one flash light.

Equipment

Canon 5D mk II, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens, a simple but sturdy tripod and a single flash light with no soft-box over it.

Inspiration

The need to raise awareness towards domestic violence. I had broken the mirror by accident a few weeks prior and knew I had to keep it and make something great out of it before throwing it away.

Editing

Conversion to black and white, and a crop.

In my camera bag

Just the one camera and lens. It's very versatile and not too heavy and inconvenient.

Feedback

Whatever you do - hire a model or ask a friend/relative. This is a self-portrait and it was not easy setting the sharpness and getting the face right where I wanted. I am lucky I managed to catch such a candid expression and place it just right too.
