Thank you Edie! I've found that my favorite photos are the ones I don't have to do anything to! I'm so glad I caught this because the exhibit was only up for a short while . . . thanks again!!

Behind The Lens

Location

Incandescent was taken at the Exploratorium (a hands on science museum) in San Francisco, CA.

Time

This particular shot was taken from inside the museum, a large warehouse type structure built on a pier, looking toward a large window facing east.

Lighting

Incandescent was a display under construction at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. As it turns out, the display didn't stay up very long, so in that sense, I'm fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time. Hundreds of bulbs were suspended in front of a very large window overlooking the San Francisco Bay and Treasure Island in a perfectly blue sky.

Equipment

Handheld Canon Rebel 3i with a 55-250 stock Canon lens.

Inspiration

First, the Exploratorium is an amazing place with hundreds of displays . . . and then there are the children and adults interacting with those displays. The wonder on the faces of the children, the pride of the parents when they see their children "understand" . . . just a great place.

Editing

I'm somewhat of a purist in the sense that I try to do as little processing as possible, using Lightroom. For this particular image, I did some cropping, adjusting exposure and contrast to make the colors pop. Other than that, the image spoke for itself.

In my camera bag

I am a hobbyist and most often enjoy taking pictures at events (baseball games, street fairs, etc). I'll generally carry my Canon with an extra battery and the long lens.

Feedback

I joke that the great thing about digital photographs is that if I take a thousand pictures, at least 10 of them should be pretty good purely by accident. Pay attention, take a lot of pictures, even if you're not sure how they'll turn out (you'll find some surprises). And finally, I've recently converted to shooting RAW files (from large format JPEG) before. What a difference in the time I spend in post processing! Well worth the small investment in a larger memory card.
