This photo was taken during the winter storm of 2013; never before was there such a heavy ice and snow storm in Toronto. The next day everything outside was just frozen and icicles on the branches. I normally do not take winter pictures but I ventured outside and shot against the greyness of the tree background and this was the image captured. I was very happy with the result and it has encouraged me to take more winter pictures.Time
It was the next morning after the winter storm and when I went outside there was a frostiness to the air and no one was around so I decided to take some pictures and one of them was this image.Lighting
I tried to go for a black and white image without adjusting my picture after it was taken so it would have a contrast. After I took a look at the result all I did was sharpen the image a little, no lighting adjustment was made.Equipment
The only camera I use that I love is my Sony DSC -RX100M3. I don't use a flash and this camera is the one I use for all the vacation locations that I have had the opportunity to visit.Inspiration
I don't normally take winter pictures so when I was walking outside my house I encountered this tree branch and the icicles that were formed on it - I just took a chance and shot the picture hoping for a different picture than what I am used to taking.Editing
I only take my pictures in Raw form so I did not perform any post-processing. With Raw form images, you have a better process to make any adjustments to the picture if need be; I was really happy with the result of this image, save for just a touch of sharpness. In my camera bag
I don't travel with anything other than the Sony camera I mentioned above; this camera is compact and does everything without to much adjusting of the different settings.Feedback
I would say now from experience to shoot in all kinds of seasons; with photography and especially taking landscape pictures, I try to capture the image in a different perspective so that it is not the "same old" when someone sees it. I love taking pictures where there are doors/windows which allows me to capture a different image. What I always keep in mind when I am shooting a picture is "what am I trying to convey/what is a different way to capture what I have in mind." I think this self-advice has served me well in my photography taking in my travels.
