Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the "English Garden" section of the Largo Botanical Gardens, Largo, Florida

Time

This was taken mid-morning

Lighting

All natural lighting from the sun and just the right mix of sun and shade

Equipment

Hand held Nikon D5300 with my go to Nikon Lens AF-S 18-300mm

Inspiration

I love cone flowers. I was working on trying to capture butterflies in flight, but the bees were buzzing this small bed of cone flowers so I thought I'd take a shot at some bee photography. As luck would have it, this little fellow was quite accommodating.

Editing

Some post processing in this shot. Slight straightening and a crop. If I recall, I also backed off on the hightlights a bit which brought out the color of the cone flower center.

In my camera bag

I always have this camera and lens combo. I also carry some cleaning equipment, a plastic bag in case of rain, a spare battery and pre-formatted card.

Feedback

Patience. I took quite a few shots that morning. When you work with live, free roaming animals and insects they don't always do what you want them too, when you want them to do it. So often it is just being in the right place at the right time. Have patience and enjoy the day.
