Location
This photo was taken in Black Forest region ( Shwarzwald) in Germany. I visited this region in May 2016. While first couple of days were nice and sunny, most of time during next 2 weeks weather was very unpleasant with drizzle, snow and freezing temperatures in the morning. So most of time I traveled in a car from one town to an other. This photo was taken on my way to Freiburg.Time
It was a rainy spring day with lots of mist and clouds on elevations above 1000 meters. I took this photo around 11 a.m. when I stopped on my way to Freiburg.Lighting
Most of time this day weather was dull with complete overcast, gloomy skies. But high in the mountains weather changing rapidly. So while driving along winding road I noticed that light condition started changing. And then on the descend to the ravine I saw this place. So I stopped the car and made several shots as fast as possible realizing that this interesting soft light could disappear immediately.Equipment
I used Nikon D7000 with wide angle Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 DXII lens. This is an excellent lens that let one take photos everywhere almost in every weather conditions. I did not use neither tripod nor flash to take this photo.Inspiration
I am looking for moments like this one with interesting light which adds mystery to final composition. Luckily, I always have my camera at hand and ready to react immediately.Editing
Normally I do some post-processing using Lightroom 5. As far as I take photos using Raw data format only, I always need to increase saturation and sharpness slightly. In addition to that I cropped my initial photo to accentuate leading line of forest edge on the right going downwards to the ravine, and to increase the role of foreground, which is essential here.In my camera bag
Most of time I have Nikon D7000 with Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 DXII lens, which is excellent for landscape photography, Nikkor 18-105 mm kit lens and Nikkor 55-300 mm telephoto lens. Also I always have tripod, which is essential for landscape photography, especially in the evening. Also I have set of basic filters including ND,variable ND and polarization filters.Feedback
Never forget your camera at home. Wherever you are, whatever weather and light conditions are always take your equipment with you. Be prepared and inspired to take interesting photos everywhere. Learn all functions of your camera to react immediately without thinking. While in place concentrate on optimal choice of composition and light conditions. Improvise to take shots at different angles, with different exposures, using different lenses and filters.
