Thanks JaneFG, this was taken just as the sun was setting using a ND8 filter to bing out the richness of the colours. This was an early photograph and unfortunately it was only shot in JPEG. It still remnains one of my most loved photographs though. Again thank you for your comments.

Location
This was taken from the Warrego Highway around 60kms west of Roma QLD. I had spent two and a half years working out here on the roads and was subjected to these sunsets on a daily basis.Time
It was taken around 6.00PM, I was driving back to Roma after a days work in Mitchell on the roads.Lighting
This is natural lighting shooting straight towards the sun. The colours where amazing but I was unsure if I was going to be able to reproduce it and not get the whole scene over exposed.Equipment
This was just as I was getting back into photography after seeing some of my mates photographs. So this was very basic kit. I used a Canon 600D body with a standard 18-55 mm zoom. To help capture the rich colours I used a cheap ND8 filter bought off ebay. I couldn't have wished for better results. At this time I was still shooting in jpeg too. It doesn't matter what kit you have get out there and shoot. There is always opportunities to pull off great shots. Some of the best photos I've seen have not been by the professionals but by enthusiasts.Inspiration
The colours in the sky and the big sky image. A lot of the time there are no feature landmarks, so photos seem empty. I just happened to be passing the only tree for miles and there was a side road that I could pull onto. When travelling I am always looking for opportunity and have ventured on many a diversion just to see what's down there.Editing
This is how it came off the memory card. I only now do very limited processing as I believe that if you can't take the picture then its not worth taking. I try to be a traditionalist photographer. In my camera bag
I have now up graded and my bag contains a few more goodies. I am now using a Canon 6D with a variety of lenses all Canon L series. I generally carry a 16-35 f2.8, 25-105 f4.0 and a 70-300 f4-5.6. I also carry a 100mm prime f2.8 if i am considering macro photography. I always have a variety of Cokin Zpro filters ND2, 4, 8 and a big stopper. Always a CRL polarising which I very rarely take off.Feedback
Yeah simply go for it. Take as many photos as you can. Learn to use your camera in manual mode and bracket and bracket some more. You can never take enough photos and the more you take the more chance that you will get one you will love. Experiment with all your settings. Photography is a learning experience so never stop pointing that camera and pressing the button. With digital photography you have nothing to lose except time.
