Lightning pictures are the easiest at night and this one is no exception. This was taken a few hours after sunset.Lighting
For lighting... you normally don't want much, if any. The darker it is the easier it is. I am still trying to get a sunset/sunrise lightning image.Equipment
This was taken with my old Sony Cybershot F707. It was my first nice digital camera and one of the first 5MP on the market at the time. For lightning, you have to use a tripod. I have the camera set to 30 seconds, stepped down to about F14 to help with the refinery lights in my area.Inspiration
I love weather and have always been amazed by lightning. I have gotten many lightning images since this one but none as dramatic.Editing
The only post processing done on this image was to crop it slightly.In my camera bag
I have upgraded since my F707 and now carry a Canon 7D and 7D mk 2. I use a 70-200L IS II, a Tamron 150-600, and 24-105L, and a 100mm L macro.Feedback
For lightning images you have to be patient and of course very careful. This shot was a little too close for comfort. It hit only about 120yds down the street at the most. Fried the electronics in the guy's house it hit.
