Behind The Lens

Location

The photograph was taken in "Jim Corbett National Park, India".

Time

This particular one is the most special one for me, for the first time I encountered this beautiful cat so close in my life. I still remember it was a chilled march evening I took an elephant ride that day and had spent almost 1 hour following tiger trails and the monkey calls but around 5 - 5:30 pm, I got the result of my hard work and spotted him sitting hardly 10 feet away from me.

Lighting

I wanted this photograph be as natural as possible but due to the low natural/sun light as it was almost set, I had to increase the iso little bit to get enough light in this picture.

Equipment

I was using Cannon 60D with 18-135mm lens no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

When you're out in the jungle and looking for a "Tiger" you don't need any other inspiration, so did I. Tiger is the only reason I visit Jim Corbett National Park every year. One cannot pre-plan the situation while doing wildlife photography, you have to be quick enough to capture that moment and in this photo I just had 10 seconds window because the moment I spotted him he was about to get up and go deep inside the jungle thankfully I adjusted the camera setting well before spotting him and trusting my quick reflexes and steady hand I started taking the shots while he was getting up and this particular shot is from that sequence where it's looking like he's posing for the camera but in reality he's just getting up after a nap.

Editing

Yes, I filled little more light in the picture.

In my camera bag

Earlier, I used to carry 60D but now I've shifted to Cannon 7D with cannon 18-135mm and sigma 50-500mm with some extra batteries.

Feedback

There are three thumb rules for wildlife photography according to me: a lot of patience, sharp eyes and agility. If you want to capture animals like tiger you have to be really patient enough because they are very hard to spot and have to be very alert and sharp all the time as they are the master of camouflage, sometimes they might be sitting right in front of you but you won't be able to figure them out and because they are very shy you have to be very agile as you will hardly get 15-20 seconds of encounter to get your desired shot, until n unless if one spot them taking a nap after a meal then its like a feast for the eyes and camera because when a tiger is resting we get enough time to take our desired shot and just simply admire the beauty of this cat with our naked eyes.
