An important piece of archaeology. The steps at Poltross burn represent the only direct evidence that Hadrian's Wall could be walked upon. The gauge of 10 feet or the narrower 6-8 feet gauge certainly meant that the wall wasn't designed to be an effective fighting platform. The steps now lead nowhere, and the proof isn't definitive as these could have lead to a wooden second floor, now lost to time.
