Location
I have a small half bathroom in the back of my home and I like to watch the birds and animals out the window there. I have bird feeders and birdhouses all around the yard.Time
It was approximately 9am one spring. The birds would seem to arrive around the feeders most days about that time..Lighting
The morning lighting is somewhat soft at that time of day out back as the rear of the house faces almost due west. Its almost like the golden hour at that time in the spring.Equipment
At the time I shot this photo I was using an Olympus E500 DSLR with the 45-150 zoom.. I didnt have to use a tripod because I can rest the camera on the windowsill back there. The Jay was sitting on the back railing of my deck and I waited for him to sort of look over his shoulder to get this pose.Inspiration
The birds, themselves, were the inspiration for shooting this. I get all kinds out there.Editing
I did minimal post processing. I just lifted saturation on stop and cut down the gamma to make it pop ..that was it.In my camera bag
I now have an Olympus OMD EM1 , the 15-45mm, 45-150mm, 150-300mm. 5omm prime lens and . I normally shoot with a circular polarizer, and I have a manfrotto tripod. Theres also peripheral items like a remote shutter release.Feedback
Just find a good spot and be ready with the camera, and be patient and you will get a shot.
