Was both surprised and happy when I saw a staffy featured in the nature contest write up. Lovely photo of my favourite breed of dog. I've had three over the years, my third just turned two. They are a misunderstood breed here in the U.K. Being used as nanny dogs in their past they are probably the best dogs to raise with children. Thanks for sharing this beautiful picture it made me smile.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on our next door neighbours property.

Time

It was coming onto the golden hour, and Miley their little grandaughter was playing happily with the family pet. She was picking up dirt in her hand and letting it slip through her fingers as the puppy was happily snapping at it. This only happened for a short instant, as toddlers have a short attention span. A moment later she and the pup were up and off searching for something else to get into.

Lighting

No flash, I just used available lighting.

Equipment

I was using my Sonya850, no flash.

Inspiration

I was following the little toddler around with my camera, capturing natural moments between her and the pup, and actually captured a very funny shot where one of their larger dogs walked right over the top of her.

Editing

In this image, I would have used basic processing including curves and sharpening.

In my camera bag

I travel very light these days, with my Sonya99 and a Tamron 28-300 lens. Its a great lens, go anywhere anytime and no need to carry a camera bag. I also carry a Sony 100mm macro, if I feel so inclined.

Feedback

Some of my best shots are those captured instantaneously, just having my camera ready at my eye for that special moment. It makes the image unique and more special.
