Behind The Lens

Location

Crystal Hill, Nevada. An old crystal mining site that supplied crystal to the U.S. Government during World War II.

Time

Afternoon, I think. We we spent the day exploring and looking for unusual crystals to bring home with us.

Lighting

The lighting on this shot was absolute luck I looked up and the picture framed itself in my mind.

Equipment

my iPhone.

Inspiration

I looked up from lower down on the hill and saw my oldest daughter silhouetted against the bright Nevada sky. The contrast between her and the bright sky grabbed my attention and I knew I had to capture the photo.

Editing

I wanted to see what the photo looked like as a black and white. I took the color out in Photoshop and loved the way it looked. Even more dramatic than the original photo looked in color.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon 6D, 16-35mm lens, 24-70mm lens, 24mm lens, 50mm lens, and my tripod with me. I didn't have them that day because we decided to go exploring on a whim.

Feedback

Always be on the lookout for those unexpected beautiful moments. You never know when they'll show up so take advantage of them when they appear.
