Location
I was taking a walk in the South Florida wetlands. It was one of the last pictures from this walk near the end of the boardwalk. I was enjoying the purple flowers and noticed this butterfly flittering among the flowers.Time
It was late afternoon on a sunny day.Lighting
This was a nice sunny afternoon with the natural lighting that was perfect to capture outdoor photos.Equipment
This picture was taken with my Rebel T5i Canon Camera, 1/250, f/8, ISO 400 with a 300mm focal length. I was in shutter priority mode. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I think butterflies are beautiful and graceful. I was taking my first photography class at the time and I was practicing different shutter speeds this day. When I saw the graceful butterfly with the moving wings against the flower I found this to be a perfect opportunity. I quickly dialed in my shutter speed of 250 based on a slower movement of the butterfly wings, looked through the viewfinder, the camera and I agreed on the focal points and the photo was taken.Editing
I did not use any post-processing. The only change to the picture was cropping it so that the flower and the butterfly were closer and the main focal point of the photo. I posted the uncropped photo on a site and someone suggested cropping the photo and this photo is the result. In my camera bag
I usually travel light. I have my camera around my neck, a lens (either a 18-55mm or 70-300mm), lens cover and an extra battery. That's it! I plan ahead and attached the lens to the camera prior to leaving the house. This is based on the type of photos I want to capture for the day.Feedback
For a photo as this, it takes patience! The opportunity has to come to you as nature isn't always cooperative. It may take several outing to get the opportunity where the butterfly and background are in harmony!
