Location
Photo was taken at the Toronto Botanical Garden (also known as Edwards Gardens) right in the middle of the city of Toronto, a lovely place that I was first introduced to by my grandparents almost 30 years ago, good old memories there.Time
I was making use of the small window of time right after work and before my badminton session, knowing it was Spring and must be blossoming I drove straight to the Toronto Botanical Garden early evening before sunset, depending on how you look at it there were so many beautiful flowers around it could be both easy and difficult to find the "perfect" one(s) to capture.Lighting
I didn't have a reflector, screen or tripod with me at the time, but it was close to sunset and as well were some clouds that I can find gaps in between times for less harsh light, so I located the ideal shooting spot, composed and had myself ready as when the right moment came for the perfect lighting, off it went the shutter release.Equipment
It was taken with my Nikon D7100 with the 200-500mm AF-S F5.6E telephoto zoom lens only, no flash, tripod or reflector used.Inspiration
The blossoming Spring is always a joyful season for pictures filled with excitement, brilliant colors and energy. Prior to the arrival at the scene there were already pictures in my mind of flower portraits that I was looking to capture. Having in mind to compliment the subjects with colors and buttery bokeh, even though some might believe this was an overkill I shot this at the longest focal length at the widest aperture at almost the minimal distance from subject to achieve my goal, one that represents Spring with softness and brilliant colors.Editing
I have to say that this had minimal post-processing as the beautiful colors were already given both within the subject and background, only the lighting could be better so there were small amounts of brightness and contrast adjustment for the touch-up.In my camera bag
Besides my primary and only camera body the Nikon D7100, I do have my tripod, lens cleaning cloth and blower, trigger release and extra batteries are along and in my bag. My lenses in the bag do varies depending on what I will be planning to capture for the day, while capturing a lot of nature wildlife and portrait/closeup shots, I'm in favour of my Nikon AF-S 200-500mm F5.6E telephoto zoom as well as the Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro lenses.Feedback
I believe composition comes first when taking a photo, beautiful scenes or subjects are attractive but can also be too much or distracting, so while I am eager to capture the beauty in front I always remind myself to also capture the minimal necessary elements around that will compliment, support and enhance to subject. It is a great visual exercise and I see myself constantly working towards and getting better at it.
