Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my makeshift photo studio which is actually a folding card table in the spare bedroom

Time

This had to have bright light to show off the bubbles. It was taken with natural light using the afternoon sun as a back-light.

Lighting

I don't have any professional lighting so I use as much natural light as possible and experiment with different times of the day. I use a white bed sheet to diffuse and soften the light.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D3100 with the kit lens while balanced on some books to keep the shot as steady as possible.

Inspiration

I always try and take something different to keep pushing the limits of what I can do. This was inspired by a similar shot done with orange slices. I wanted to use something with a stem and we had cherries in the refrigerator.

Editing

This has a small crop and a minor contrast adjustment. I prefer to spend more time getting the shot perfect than to try and fix something in post-processing.

In my camera bag

I am a Nikon user and have a D3100 and a D5600 which I am learning to use now. My go to lens is a 18-15 F3.5, but I use a 18-300 F3.5 and the kit lens which came with the D3100. I also have a 50mm prime and I am learning the ins and outs of a prime lens. Finally I have a Manfroto travel tripod which is great for all types of photography

Feedback

Don't be afraid to fail. I took close to 60 photos before I realized I had the wrong lens and settings. Experiment with your settings and focus points. Try anything which you feel may make a great photo. You never know how it is going to look until you actually take the picture.
