Awesome, what a beauty !!!!
Masterful lighting, spot on exposure, and perfect composition !
This image would be nowhere near the same without the mirror and black background, everything is so well executed, hence the well-deserved Superior Skill award.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in my makeshift home studio. The car is a 1/18 scale model on black Plexiglas using black velvet as the background.

Time

This was taken with first light at 5:30 in the morning.

Lighting

The lighting on this picture is about as DYI as you can get. I used the front window of my home and hung a white bed sheet over the window to diffuse the direct morning sun. As an amateur with limited space I have to use lighting from where ever I can.

Equipment

I set everything up on a folding table with a Nikon D3100 on a tripod on plane with the car. The lens is my "go to" for this type of photography a 16-85mm F3.5-5.6.

Inspiration

I have always had a love for car photography, but have never really pursued it. I also collect 1/18 scale models and up until this photo had never put the two together. I go to car shows all the time but most of them have harsh lighting and reflections everywhere. Taking this picture gave me the chance to photograph a car where I have complete control over everything.

Editing

There is very minimal Post Processing on this photograph. Unfortunately when working with black reflective surfaces and backgrounds, and no matter how much canned air you use, there will always be some dust in the picture which must be dealt with. Other than that a minimal contrast, highlights, and color adjustments were made.

In my camera bag

I have many prime and zoom lenses in the bag but my go to is a Nikon D5600 with a 16-85mm F3.5-5.6. I have found this lens to be one of the sharpest and most versatile lenses I own.

Feedback

One of the things I do to challenge myself is when I decide to photograph a item or a place is I limit myself to use only one lens. This forces me, as a photographer, to adapt to the environment and equipment. Composition becomes more important as you can can only use what you brought with you.
