I took this photo in the triennale museum in Milano. I was in the city for a two weeks mission ans my wife decided to travel all the way from Lausanne with our baby boy to spend an extended week-end shooting and enjoying the fantastic local food.Time
That was in the beginning of the afternoon. I remember telling myself that it is not worth staying out in the hard light, so why not escape the unusually hot spring and chill admiring what interior designers of today are preparing for our future homes. It was actually niceLighting
Well, that is a tricky question. It's a museum so I take care not to flash anything, and I am not sure I was in fact allowed to shoot at all. It was very dark, sections lit by spot lights. I am used to difficult flashless event photography so when I saw my boy running into that special place, I configured my camera and shot... and asked my boy to re-enter the display because I failed the first times.....Equipment
I used my D810 and my 24-70 at 2.8. No tripod, no flash. Handheld trying to keep the subject centered and background symmetrical while my boy while running like a drunk into it.Inspiration
With an engineering background, I like geometrical figures and symmetry. And of course like any parent, I shoot my child more than reasonable. When I saw the display and the opportunity, I could not resist.Editing
A little bit more than what I want to admit. Reframed to make the symmetry perfect. Enhanced contrast to darken boy and the black lines. Transformed to black and white...In my camera bag
I wish I could let my wife answer you this question, and she will say too much! I usually take, well, too much. My bag has a D810, 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200, all in 2.8. A flash 910 and some little gadgets. And a little compact camera for videos and souvenirs pictures.Feedback
Trust in your luck. In hard light conditions, tend to underexpose to shorten the shutter speed and avoid unwanted motion blur, you can lighten it up in post-production. The unexpected is often the best.
