This image was capture in Melbourne Florida in a wildlife conservation area. Is a beautiful place to go hiking when it is not so hot outside.Time
I usually go shooting early in the morning when most birds are waking up and shaking their wings or later in the afternoon when they are trying to get the last meal of the day and/or are ready to rest. I usually prefer to go in sunny days when I can get the most light so I can get sharp images, but in Florida a sunny day can turn into a storm in a matter of minutes.Lighting
I’m a self-taught photographer and every picture is a learning experience for me. I always shoot in manual and I shoot as many pictures as I can with different settings and light exposures as possible before my subject runs away. I think for wildlife sunny days are a must and combined with shady areas will give you the more detail and sharpnessEquipment
This image was captured with a Canon 7D Mark II and a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II lens. Nothing else was used in this particular image.Inspiration
I grew up hunting, climbing and mountain biking. I love adventure and nature. I used to love going duck and gator hunting, but I realized what I really loved wasn’t hunting but being in the wilderness. My wife got me the new Canon 7D Mark II as a Christmas present and I traded my guns to get new lens and a new passion was born. Since then I go shooting with my camera anything I can find.Editing
Other than cropping and some basic adjustments of light and color on Lightroom’s basic pane I did not do anything else on this particular image. In my camera bag
My everyday lens is my Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II. Is rare that you will see any other lens in my camera, is my to-go lens in all my adventures. I also like to carry my 2X converter which will gives me the extra reach I need for some pictures, and combined with my Canon 500D diopter I get a great focus distance for macro on the go. I also have the Canon MPE 65 which I normally use to capture critters around the house and my 50mm 1.2L for street photography.Feedback
I went from being and avid hunter to wildlife photographer. I think the key is patience and perseverance. I lot of times I went hunting and got nothing other than to enjoy a day in the wild, the same applies for photography. Also good camouflaged gear helps.
