This photo was captured at sunset around 19.00, I was luckily taking photos in the area and noticed the sun was setting over the water.Lighting
With this body of water high up in the fells, once the sun got low enough it casted this wonderful golden glow, the biggest challenge was making sure I didn't get any light flares as I was nearly in direct view of the sun. I also need to make sure the composition was correct and that I had a nice evenly exposed imageEquipment
This was taken with a Nikon D5500, with a 35mm lens, and the camera was on a tripodInspiration
To be honest I didn't intend to take this photo, I was in the area taking other photos and I was currently driving home when I noticed the sun setting, it became apparent to me that this was going down directly behind Devoke water. I quickly drove to the side road that goes to the water and once I arrived on location I had only moments to spare to find the best composition, get the settings right and finally capture the image. The best thing about taking this photo for me was the fact I was in my first year of ever taking photos and I only had the camera for three months.Editing
I only did some minor tweaks as I had not fully got my head around Lightroom and Photoshop yet the main change I did that made a big difference was to crop the image as I had some burnt areas where the sun was. Apart from that the image is mostly down to getting everything right on location.In my camera bag
What I had in the bag then was just a 35mm lens and a 50mm lens, and that was all. Now I have a vast amount of gear like a polarize filter, grad filters, and my favourite lens the 70-200mm telephoto lens.Feedback
If you have the time unlike me try and research whats happing with the weather, find out what time sunrise and sunset is. You can also get apps that even show where the sun will be at those time, this is great for planning ahead and to help capture a wonderful sunrise or sunset. If you are caught out like me just remember to make sure your composition is not going to be affected by any lens flare which could spoil the image also if you have any filters then you could use them to help reduce any flares and help produce some wonderful images.
