It was just after 10 in the morning on April 12, 2015.Lighting
I do not have great lighting in my home (built in 1889) so I had to use what was available. That being natural window lighting from a west facing window. Using the curtains to allow just the right amount of light to hit the subject and light up those eyes.Equipment

Although this was for an assignment I wanted to capture the authentic character of my subject. Something that expressed just who he is. Anyone who knows the man in this photo agrees that the image does display the true honesty and mystery of who he is.Editing
There was very minimal post-processing of the image. Simply some darkening of the blacks and some sharpening is all.In my camera bag
Although my bag tends to be on the big and bulky side I usually don't leave home without it. It is a Nanuk 945 waterproof case. (you never know where you may end up) It contains 2 Canon 60D, 2 18-200mm, a 17-40mm, 50mm, 100mm macro, a 150-500mm sigma, a remote, external flash, of course extra batteries, and memory cards. The things not actually in the case of course being reflectors, and tripods.Feedback
When shooting portraits I always try to stay true to the character of the individual. I find the best way to do so is by getting to know your subject. Talk to them, ask them about themselves, find out who they are and what they like, and find a way to express that in your image.
